Easiest Aspect: The boots, as all I had to do was modify an exisiting pair.
Hardest Aspect: The jacket with it's gravity-defying collar. Some parts of the jewellery were a bit of a pain too.
Contruction Notes: This costume's a little frustrating, because although it looks like 'normal' clothing, there's actually quite a lot of work in it. The jacket I made from scratch with my own pattern. For the jeans, I bought a new pair from the store and then spent a couple of afternoons attacking them with a cheese grater (yes, a cheese grater) to get the 'distressed jeans' look with the tears. I also added an extra set of pockets to the sides.
The glove was one thing that gave me a lot of trouble, trying to think of a way of doing it that wouldn't involve body paint. In the end, I used a matt black glove, with the edges cut, attatched to my arm with sock glue. Sock glue? It's a type of skin-safe glue that was popular in Japan in the 90's in order to hold 'loose socks' in place. Shasta happened to have some from one of her Japan trips. It works brilliantly!
Lastly, the wings. They're made of black vinyl with a wire frame on the inside.
I love this costume, I really got to be crazy all day when I wore it! He's such a fun character to run around as. |
